Riverkeeper – (Riverkeeper – How Is The Water) released its five-year study of the water quality in the Hudson Estuary (NY Harbor to Troy, NY) on Tuesday. It does not make for very happy reading. There have certainly been significant improvements…but we have a long way to go.
This afternoon I participated in a “Shut Down Indian Point” rally. Pictures and facts over the weekend.
As I wrote last weekend…What I Did Instead… Katherine swam in the Newburgh to Beacon swim to benefit River Pool the past three years and I photographed it. That did not happen this year. Katherine simply had no time to train for the swim, way too much going on, so I went to Boston for the Sox – Yankees game. Katherine did go to the swim but instead of swimming she filled my role and shot.
The water was much rougher this year than in previous years and many swimmers commented on that. It was clear a storm was trying to roll in but the swim was just after Noon and it wasn’t due until 4pm so swim they did.
I know that a few swimmers (who are also writers) are readers of the blog so feel free to post a description or send one to me and I will post it (giving credit where due, of course).
