As we drove back from Boston today, This American Life had a horrific story on “self deportation” especially as it relates to Alabama’s new “May I see your papers please” immigration laws…interesting looking at this video, how many “real Americans” this daughter of immigrants is employing…
For those of you under 40, once upon a time in the USA we made fun of The USSR, fascist Germany, and other dictatorship for insisting that their citizens carry papers that could be requested by the authorities at any time, to prove they were legit. It was considered government intrusion. Now small government politicians, mainly but not only, Republicans are pushing these intrusive laws especially through the south. (South Carolina is apparently the next target).
