It was hot today…

Okay now that we have that out of the way.  Today was a day for me to catch up on a few movies. I finally saw The Hunger Games (late to the party, I know) and liked it very much. This is mainly due to the spectacular performance of Jennifer Lawrence and what is I believe is left of the underlying material (I have not read the book but have heard it really rips you up emotionally) which has been pretty well sanitized.

Then came home and later in the evening Katherine and I watched My Week With Marilyn (so late, the party was over, a new one had started and ended and…). Again I enjoyed it but it wasn’t what it could have been. It is too much about Marilyn and not enough about the young man narrator. This creates a large problem because while Michelle Williams is an excellent actress and really gives it a shot…she isn’t Marilyn Monroe. As they keep reiterating in the movie Marilyn had “something special” that blazed on-screen (and in real life when she choose to “be” Marilyn).  I don’t think any actress could have pulled this off and it weakens the movie.
