“A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds”
Self-Reliance – Ralph Waldo Emerson
When I started The Quotidian Hudson its Constitution stated a picture a day. No more than one picture a day. Apparently those of us who drafted the Constitution were very into ropes and rules that winter. At some point fairly early in the process I decided it was a dumb rule and held a Constitutional Convention where we amended indeed eliminated, the rule and set no limit on what might be done.
However on January 30th, 2011 the “one picture rule” was still in effect. The two pictures below did not make the cut that day.
It really was winter in January of 2011.
If you are interested in seeing the picture that did make the cut… go here

I remember this weekend in 2011. There had been a big snowstorm on jan 27th or 28th, and I did one of my runs around Manhattan (32 miles around the perimeter of the island) on the 29th. I remember seeing the Hudson River full of ice like in your pictures here.

That was a cold and snowy January (we had the big blizzard back on the 6th or 7th) but as soon as February hit it was springish.

Yeah! I like these two better
I didn’t even have a constitution …

I do too. I always have some sort of constitution, even if I don’t know it.

That might be good … but not if they are too old and outdated

It is eerie that you took this Constitutional tack, given what I have been reading of late.

Something that will be showing up in the story soon?

Book related. I will never refer to those things directly on the blog, if I write about them.

I like the bottom photo better than the one that made the cut. They are difficult to see but the birds are there on the ice and snow…

Its interesting how your view changes over time. I certainly agree with you now, but then…

We grow; we change; and perspectives change as well…you knew all that!

You’re okay. Thomas Jefferson felt the Constitution should be rewritten for each new generation. He even wrote to a friend before he died, “We have not yet so far perfected our constitutions as to venture to make them unchangeable.”

Could you mention that to Scalia and Thomas next time you are in DC?
