2-5-13 Lights Up!

I took an intensive lighting technique class this weekend. Somewhat for fun and somewhat for knowledge (best way to take a class I think).  Flora Hanitijo (check out her website) taught the class. She had us break into two groups and try to duplicate some Richard Avedon photos. Of course we didn’t have the studio or the time he did but we tried our best. Each member of the team tried to match the lightning of a particular shot and then we posed our model, Victoria Campbell, to either duplicate the pose or evoke the mood. One of my team chose this image and we set it up.

Here is Avedon’s shot of a young Truman Capote

Capote by Avedon-1

Here is my interpretation with a young Ms. Campbell…

Lighting-1

I don’t think I came close to posing her correctly and I did something weird with the light above her head (which I will easily fix in Photoshop) but I really think we came close to the lighting, given our equipment limitations.  I think the mood is complimentary to the Capote and I like the image as image.
