6-2-12 Street Life

It is spring/summer in NYC which means street fairs are in full bloom.  Now in a lot of places, street fairs are pretty exciting things.  Bands play, local artisans sell well made crafts, and chefs strut their stuff.  They are also exciting affairs in New York  if you need cheap tube socks, badly grilled food, underwear and CDs.  Almost all of them sell the same stuff, week after week and year after year and they make an ungodly mess of traffic BUT, people love them. Except when it rains I have never seen an empty one.

I am TA’ing an Intensive Digital 1 course at ICP over the next two weekends and we had a street fair on 6th Avenue today. Bad for traffic but great for the folks taking the class. They didn’t have to go looking for subjects. the subjects came to them.
