Well this could be the last time
This could be the last time
Maybe the last time
I don’t know.
I read some pundit or other who said (and I paraphrase) “It took ten years to rebuild Europe after WWII. We can’t even build a commercial building and memorial in that time…”
I went to the ceremony at the Fireman’s Memorial today. It is located above Riverside Drive at 100th Street with a great view of the park and the river. Unlike the political event downtown, this felt more organic and real (albeit staged and presented but people – for the most part – came because they wanted to, no one was locked out – downtown the first responders were not invited…there was “no room”)
There were some truly heartbreaking moments – see Amazing Grace (especially around a minute 20 second mark). There were also some truly silly ones (the tailgating Bud Light parties afterwards) which are what made it so real and unmediated.
Those who died that day had no idea of the things we would do in their name because of some murderous thugs…
