3-22-14 Weekly Photo Challenge

“How strange is the lot of us mortals! Each of us is here for a brief sojourn; for what purpose he knows not, though he senses it. But without deeper reflection one knows from daily life that one exists for other people.”

Albert Einstein

1-18-14 Weekly Photo Challenge: Family

Family. I was going to make a Duck Dynasty joke here but, never mind. This “before they were famous gif” sums up my feelings. (found on Perez Hilton after seeing on Real Time with Bill Maher last night).Duck Dynasty

Anyway, my favorite road sign in the entire world (RT 6, Cape Cod) sums it up, I think. (Yes I did a little work in Lightroom.)

11-15-13 Travel Theme: Short

Ailsa’s theme this week is short. It came to her because she is feeling short of time which brought me to my first few views of the theme. This was not an unusual circumstance in those days . These views are from Wellfleet.

Short-08979

Short-08985

But, short does not always relate to time. Many years later, on a beach in Wellfleet, two tourists, very short tourists, look as if they are about to run short of time.

Short-03248But, as we know, Mr. Bill and Stewie, always bounce back.

11-7-13 Weekly Photo Challenge: Eerie #2

I thought I would get one last eeriesome picture in to celebrate this weeks theme. My first attempt is here.

This one comes from Cape Cod, Chatham’s Lighthouse Beach. Perhaps the cover of a slightly kinky romance novel? 40 Shades of Silver? An “Alien” Invasion?

10-11-13 Weekly Photo Challenge: Infinite

This week the photo challenge is Infinite. It seems to me that when you check the definition of the word infinite it boils down to one of two things . 1: Having no limits; 2:  Extending indefinitely. There are other definitions but they all seem to be subsets of these two.

Merriam Webster Online defines it as:

1:  extending indefinitely :  endless <infinite space>
2:  immeasurably or inconceivably great or extensive : inexhaustible <infinite patience>
3:  subject to no limitation or external determination
4a :  extending beyond, lying beyond, or being greater than any preassigned finite value however large <infinite number of positive numbers>
 b :  extending to infinity <infinite plane surface>
c :  characterized by an infinite number of elements or terms <an infinite set> <an infinite series>
Anyway. Lots of ways to go. Here are two.
First lets look at space. The final frontier.

Now that Voyager 1 has broken out of the solar system our species is getting its first real taste of the infinite size of space.

The moon is 384,400 km away – give or take where it is in its monthly cycle. Voyager 1 at the moment I type this is 18,871,155,000 km away and has barely left the solar system. The Jet Propulsion Laboratory has a really cool real-time odometer here that tracks Voyager 1 and Voyager 2.
I took this photograph in Wellfleet this past summer.

I went to visit 5Pointz today before they tear it down for high-rise apartments. I found this which I believe represents another infinite cycle – the food chain.

Now here are some other ways of looking at the subject.
