I don’t want to hear a sad story
Full of heartbreak and desire
The last time I felt like this
It was in the wilderness and the canyon was on fire
And I stood on the mountain
In the night and I watched it burn
I watched it burn, I watched it burn
This utterly heart wrenching and beautiful song has nothing to do with the Hudson River. However, it is one of my all time favorite songs by my all time favorite singer, Emmylou Harris. If you watch the video (and are a country music fan) you will notice several future stars playing in her band. I used to sing Abigail to sleep with this tune. Some people told me it wasn’t appropriate as a lullaby but really compared to “If I should die before I wake, I pray the lord my soul to take…”
One of Abigail’s friends took a picture of her which I posted on Facebook today. This beautiful, tall, confident, 14 year old with her camera slung around her neck, barrel of the lens in her hand, a body of water in the background, looking like so many shots I have seen of professional photographers in the field.
Across the evening sky, all the birds are leaving
But how can they know it’s time for them to go?
Before the winter fire, I will still be dreaming
I have no thought of time
For who knows where the time goes?
Who Knows Where The Time Goes?
These folks are not thinking about where the time goes. They are just enjoying the now. Even the jet skier (I hate jet skis but today, I am cutting him – and it is almost always a guy… wonder why… – a break).
I am finding it hard to be here now these past days. I seem to want to be there instead.
When I started this post I told myself it was time for an upbeat happy post. It seems to have slipped from my hands.
Ah well, I will end with this joke my friend Lisa Wolpe posted on FB today.
