“The world is full of obvious things which nobody by any chance ever observes.
This quote opens the chapter called “Into The Fourth Dimension” from Alexandra Horowitz‘ lovely new book On Looking: Eleven Walks with Expert Eyes. This is a book for anyone and everyone but I do strongly recommend it for visual artists, especially photographers, and writers. Simply put, the book details Horowitz’ walks “around the block” with eleven people with various areas of expertise. Geology, typography, naturalist, toddler all present her with an astonishingly different view of the world. I spent five hours in the “Genius Bar” at the Apple store today and was able to do a lot of reading. I know I came out seeing the world differently. Sadly five hours with Apple means no hours with camera. So, here is one more shot from my walk yesterday. This is for my cousin Stephanie.
