I am being literal today. The weekly challenge is Monument so that is what I shall show. Last year on a cool day in late June I was in Boston escorting my cousins on Freedom Trail.
There are many monumental sites on the trail but the last two of note are what interest us here.
The first is the penultimate stop: Old Ironsides, The USS Constitution:
and then the final stop: The Bunker Hill Monument. Two things of note about this monument. It was the tallest in the United States until The Washington Monument was built in 1885 and most of The Battle of Bunker Hill was actually fought on Breeds Hill.
Here are some other monumental views:

Nice take on the Monument theme! I had forgotten that last little bit of information about Breed’s Hill. Age often does that to one. 🙂
Meanwhile, you’re welcome to come and see what my take on the theme is:

I love the first shot. That is one grand ship. We don’t have any of these in Australia, so it is a marvel to look at.
Thank you. It is quite impressive I think.

I didn’t know the Battle of Bunker Hill was fought somewhere else…
Thanks for the pingback. 🙂

Indeed. The Bostonians accidentally fortified Breed’s Hill and not Bunker Hill as they had been ordered to do. This was much closer to the British lines and so a large provocation which caused the British to attack. Here is a link to a very interesting article from Smithsonian.com. http://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/the-true-story-of-the-battle-of-bunker-hill-36721984/?page=1
