15-05-01 May Day May Day It’s May – Weekly Photo Challenge: Intricate

“There is a time in life when you expect the world to be always full of new things. And then comes a day when you realise that is not how it will be at all. You see that life will become a thing of holes. Absences. Losses. Things that were there and are no longer. And you realise, too, that you have to grow around and between the gaps, though you can put your hand out to where things were and feel that tense, shining dullness of the space where the memories are.”

Helen MacDonald

H Is For Hawk

If I have neglected to say that the next book you read should be Ms. Macdonald’s H Is For Hawk, my apologies. Not since I read Bolano’s The Savage Detectives has a book grabbed me with its content, writing, emotion and sheer brilliance as this one did.

This week’s photo challenge is IntricateH Is For Hawk, while “simply” written and very accessible is the most intricate book I have read in years. The depth of the intelligence, emotion and knowledge is extraordinary.

My photo does not live up to it. Nonetheless here, direct from Mexico City is La Virgen De Dolores:
