16-05-24 A Bit Of The Work Of The Last Week

A photograph is a secret about a secret. The more it tells you the less you know.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Time

“…takes a cigarette/puts it in your mouth” – Bowie

nope wrong song…

So you live day to day,
And you dream about tomorrow, oh
And the hours go by like minutes
And the shadows come to stay
So you take a little something
To make them go away
I could have done so many things, baby
If I could only stop my mind
From wonderin’ what I left behind
And from worrying ’bout this wasted time

Frey/Henley/Norman

The challenge is time

My answer?

Well, an answer, I believe, is found in this snowy portrait…

15-07-16 Awash In Symbols (Weekly Photo Challenge 2)

Symbol is the weekly challenge. In a week in which Go Set A Watchman was released onto the world, I am not sure that anything we post in response to the challenge of Symbol, can be anything but a let down, but since when has that ever stopped me?

Herewith an abundance of symbology.

My first, much quieter and simpler, attempt is here

15-06-29 The Dreamer

Sometimes it takes a rainy day
Just to let you know
Everything’s gonna be – all right
All right

I’ve been dreaming in the sun
won’t you wake me up someone
I need a little peace of mind

Wake me from this dream
That I have dreamed so many times
I need a little peace of mind
Oh, I need a little peace of mind

When you open up your life to the living
All things come spilling in on you
And you’re flowing like a river
the Changer and the Changed
You’ve got to spill some over
Spill some over
Spill some over
Over all

Filling up and spilling over
It’s an endless waterfall
Filling up and spilling over
Over all

Filling up and spilling over
It’s an endless waterfall
Filling up and spilling over
Over all

Like the rain, falling on the ground
Like the rain, falling all around….

Sometimes it takes a rainy day
Just to let you know
Everything’s gonna be – All right
I know, I know, I know all right

Filling up and spilling over
An endless waterfall
Filling up and spilling over
Over all

Filling up and spilling over
It’s an endless waterfall
Filling up and spilling over
Over all

06-15-15 Double Your Pleasure Or At Least Your Fun

While I waited for a few students from the ICP Borough Walk through Brooklyn Heights and Brooklyn Bridge Park to meet us at Jane’s Carousel, I thought I would play with some double exposures at bride central – the boardwalk in front of the carousel. I was there for about 45 minutes and saw 5 wedding dresses with groom tux accompaniment and three engagement shoots happening…in a town this big you would think…

Nah, it is a pretty place.

15-02-07 Weekly Travel Theme Photo Challenge (Outside The Lines)

“Visual ideas combined with technology combined with personal interpretation equals photography. Each must hold its own; if it doesn’t, the thing collapses.”

Arnold Newman

The Weekly Photo Challenge is Scale. Ailsa’s Travel Theme is Details.

I was out today playing with making double exposures in camera…when I looked at the images after I got home, I realized that they are chock full of details at scale. So I figured why not.

Here is my First attempt at scale:

15-02-02 Weekly Photo Challenge – Depth – Groundhog Edition

“They should announce a sequel to Groundhog Day and then just re-release the original.”

Unknown but all over the internet

I am choosing to answer the Weekly Challenge in Depth as this will be my third go at it.

Attempt #1

Attempt #2

And so attempt # 3 celebrates Groundhog Day (no groundhog in picture, it is more conceptual than that.) and his/her/its prediction of 6 more weeks of winter.  It is too bad. I was hoping for only a month and a half more. Ah well.

15-01-27 Scenes From A Small Storm

RSJohnson_Hudson_1501279152Well, the Clipper stayed east of us and NYC ended up with between 6″ and 12″ depending on your borough. It will probably be an extraordinarily expensive non major event given how many people didn’t go to work today and the cost to small business of shutting down the subway.

Long Island, Massachusetts and Maine got hit hard. It wasn’t the size of the storm but the location that was missed. I hope my Governor and Mayor will realize that weather forecasts are notoriously unreliable and you don’t cancel the world on a rumor. You prepare but you don’t act until you have some surety.

However, it was a “snow day” today. Here are a few images from this morning

15-01-26 Weekly Photo Challenge – Express Yourself – Self Portrait Blizzard Version

A photographic portrait is a picture of someone who knows he is being photographed, and what he does with this knowledge is as much a part of the photograph as what he’s wearing or how he looks.
Richard Avedon

The Weekly Challenge is Express Yourself

My first take was 15-01-23

My second take was that

Today is “and the other”…

9-14-14 No Drama Sunday – Double Exposure

Since Abigail headed off to college I have, for no apparent reason, decided that it is time to edit and organize the pre-digital photos that I took from the time I met Katherine until 2006 when I completed the digital transition.

I can be an idiot sometimes.

One of the hardest parts of doing this is that, as those of you of a certain age will recall, at a certain point photo labs started a service war that involved given you double sets of prints. I kept both…

We will not discuss the boxes of slides that I have not even ventured near. I just completed 1995. Happily Abigail was born the next year. Sadly that means the amount of photographs doubles? (no) triples or quadruples.

This has nothing to do with double exposures. However it seems on one of our cross country trips I had an explosion of interest in in-camera double exposures. For some reason this is the one I liked best today.
