When winter first begins to bite
and stones crack in the frosty night,
when pools are black and trees are bare,
’tis evil in the Wild to fare.
The weird turn pro.” – Hunter S Thompson
As I post this at 10:29 PM EDT the Autumn Equinox is here. In New York, the summer was not very summer like. I will miss it anyway as it was a momentous season for my family.
I went down to the river this evening to say goodbye to the summer. The wind was blowing hard and the temperature was dropping. Fall is here. These are a few of the images that I brought back.
Just discovered this contest Capture The Colour which ends today.
The colours (or colors on this side of the pond) requested are: Red; Green; Blue; Yellow and White (the anti-color). A few of these may be familiar to some of you.
Green – Champlain Canal Lock # 5
Blue – Duck Pond, Wellfleet MA
White – The trail between Inwood Hills park and The George Washington Bridge
A further request is that you invite five fellow bloggers to submit. Several bloggers I would have chosen have already been picked. Several others are on the other side of the world where it is already the 10th.

“A wind has blown the rain away and blown the sky away and all the leaves away, and the trees stand. I think, I too, have known autumn too long.”
Today, for the first time since March, I wished I had put my gloves in my camera bag…
I spent much of today working in International Center of Photography (ICP)‘s library. They just added some new shelves and when you do that in a library it means that every book in the place needs to be touched. It is a great time to get all books back in catalog order.
There are a LOT of photography books in the world. I saw some great stuff by people I have never heard of. Looking at the images made it very difficult for me to figure out why some break through to, relative, fame and fortune while other equally talented people do not.
I hope everyone in the States remembers to fall back.
Oh play me a blue song and fade down the light
I’m sad as a proud man can be sad tonight
Just let me dream on, oh just let me sway
While the sweet violins and the saxophones play
