15-04-10 Weekly Photo Challenge – Afloat (Danza_de_los_Voladores)

“Those who gave away their wings are sad not to see them fly.”

~Antonio Porchia,Voces, 1943, translated from Spanish by W.S. Merwin

As we came out of the Museo Nacional de Antropología we heard some music coming from a greensward ahead of us. As we walked over we saw, well, some gentlemen “afloat” in the distance.  It went something like this.

This event goes by the name of Danza_de_los_Voladores or “Dance of the Flyers”. It is apparently a centuries old ritual in Mesoamerica.

Here are some other views on floatation…

2-19-13 This Is The End (Of Valentine’s Day)

On February 14, I took a lot of pictures. Many related to One Billion Rising, a number to the protest about Ovation and many to Valentine’s Day and Aruba.

Yes, Aruba was having some picture-taking event in Times Square.

Here is one of the young women who was working the event…

a little cold for the island but still…and as I was leaving Aruba, another of the young ladies working the event tapped me on the shoulder and said “you might want to shoot this…so I did

I am not certain why they were flying.

There was also a Valentine’s Day circle set up so couples could have friends or strangers take their picture with their phones…

They seem to be having an enjoyable evening.

And let’s end this post with  a couple that is still under development…

I went out today just to shoot a few Sunday shots and have a typical No Drama Sunday. But the world had other plans for me. The day was filled with drama and with beings reaching, each in their own way, for the heights.  Some achieved them and some did not.

More Peanuts, NOW

After I finished communing with the squirrel (as you can see above we did not part on the best of terms. I think he blamed me for causing him to drop his peanut.) I continued to stroll. A few blocks ahead I saw people looking at the road and what seemed to be a car crash but they were not behaving normally. Usually you see looks of concern and people on their cell phones calling 911, but these folks were shaking their heads, pointing and some were blatantly laughing.

What the...

How did he do that?

After spending some time chatting with other observers, the cops finally showed up. They had a lot of trouble keeping straight faces. I decided to head home. Just north of our building I came across yet more aerial activity…

Abigail was helping me select shots this morning as she always does. When we got to this sequence she stopped and said “I know these kids. They’re triplets. They’re Lilah’s friends.”

Now let’s get in the Way Back Machine and head off to 3/4/11…

I love synchronicity…
