“Well I’m a one man band
Nobody knows nor understands
Is there anybody out there wanna lend me a hand
With my one man band”

9-25-12 Love This Giant

“Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.”
Plato

We had a great evening.  David Byrne & St. Vincent are on the Love This Giant tour to celebrate their new collaboration.  We went to see them at the Beacon Theater last night. It was a truly fantastic show.  Great and quirky songs, great playing and a band that is clearly having a good time. Byrne and St. Vincent have put together an 8 piece brass band with drummer and electronics player. David mainly plays rhythm and St. Vincent mainly lead guitar but they both play the theremin as well as a few other instruments and both, of course, sing.

Most of the concert is from their CD but each of them breaks out a few of their own songs. The entire concert is choreographed and has a very second line feel. If the tour comes anywhere near you I truly recommend grabbing your honey or a friend or 5 and going to see the show.

To those who observe: May you have an easy fast.

California Dreaming
Subterranean Homesick Blues
Free As A Bird

Come Fly With Me
Crying
Oh Darlin’

Great radio set, right? WOMR, 92.1, Provincetown played that this morning as I left Wellfleet on my way to Brewster.
California Dreaming started up
” you know the preacher likes the cold
He knows I’m going to stay.”
Shook my head at the weirdness of life.
“you don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows. ”
Really?
” Free as a bird
It’s the next best thing to be.”
They are really messing with me now and so on to
“and if you go no one may follow
That path is for your steps alone”

I gave up and just let the music take me until as the final chords of Oh Darlin’ ended I pulled into the parking lot of the Animal Hospital and took my Mother-in-law’s 14 year old, dearly loved, extremely sick and in pain, mini poodle inside. The staff was wonderful and kind and took care of things with care and gentleness.

12-1-11 T’is The Season

And now it’s December, 2011. That means that I finally can hear the Holiday music that has been playing incessantly in stores and on a variety of radio stations since Halloween, without getting ill.

Yes, I said Holiday music. I live in New York City where according to Fox News the “liberals” and “socialists” have won the war on Christmas.  I prefer to think that in this space we inhabit, most of us prefer not to shove our particular beliefs or non-beliefs down each others throats.

The Québécois Tree folks have been decorating…

2-26-11 Songs of The Hudson

Every now and again I will be linking to songs about the River. I hope that the way I am doing this does not violate any copyright…I’m sure someone will let me know if I am.  I thought I would start with this beautiful performance by Dar Williams of her song “The Hudson”
