A rose contemplates the Tappan Zee as the Hudson ignores it all (as best it can) and rolls on by.

11-25-14 A Sign Of Red Hook

This may be my favorite sign in the city.

Seen on a bridge over the Gowanus Canal (back in the past referred to as Lavender Lake due to its pungent smell, now apparently supposed to become the Venice of Brooklyn.)

10-7-14 Weekly Photo Challenge: Signs

Challenge: Signs

Possibly of all the signs I see frequently, this is my least favorite sign in the world.

Here is my first response to the challenge:

10-3-14 Weekly Photo Challenge: Signs

As I went walking I saw a sign there
And on the sign it said “No Trespassing.”
But on the other side it didn’t say nothing,
That side was made for you and me.

Signs: Oh my, The Weekly Photo Challenge has really been going into my breadbasket these last few weeks. I don’t know if I will be able to leave signs alone anymore than I left nighttime alone.

This is a different version of a photograph of a sign I posted back sometime in November of 2011. I took it in Troy New York the night before I started north following The Erie and Champlain Canals as they worked with the Hudson (which truly becomes a river and not an estuary above Troy.)

Some things just stick with you.

5-5-14 Weekly Photo Challenge : Spring (Cinco De Mayo Edition)

No limes were harmed in the making of this blog.

Challenge: Spring

First Attempt: here

In reality this post has nothing to do with Cinco De Mayo.  I just thought I should acknowledge the day.

Here is a classic New York City view of spring…

wait for it…

it’s a good one…

In spring they say a young person’s fancy turns. I do seem to keep running into them.RSJohnson_Hudson_1405050043

They told me they are getting married.

1-14-13 Silly Sublime

All states have some silly laws

Here are 2.5 from Vermont:

At one time it was illegal to tie a giraffe to a telephone pole;

It is illegal to paint landscapes in times of war (this made sense before the photograph?);

Wives must ask their husbands permission to wear false teeth.

3-9-11 Dobbs Ferry

Welcome to Dobbs Ferry .

Working my way north train station by train station.  Dobbs Ferry is a quiet little village (well off for the most part although its median income is significantly lower than the Westchester County average). George Washington camped in the area during the summer of 1781. He and the army actually covered many of the surrounding villages in the town of Greenburgh but he headlined his letters \”Head Quarters, Dobbs Ferry\”

More on Trespass tomorrow or Saturday…
