10-11-14 Weekly Photo Challenge: Dreamy

“Well I just had to laugh
I saw the photograph

And somebody spoke and I went into a dream”

Nightmares are dreamy too.

9-4-14 Weekly Photo Challenge: Dialogue

I am going to bend the rules today.

Dialogue is an engaging conversational exchange.

When it comes to photography, dialogue can be perceived as a consensual interaction between two images.”

Ah but sometimes the dialogue can be between a picture and an image in your mind. Today was Day 1 of classes at Smith College. I did not need to be there to form an image of the morning.

13 years ago on 9/03/2001, I was there. I still have that image in my mind but I also have the photographic proof.

I also have a third image in my mind that will be familiar to most of you, an image of a bright morning 8 days after this picture was taken. Unimportantly, my world changed all three of these days.

Extremely importantly, my daughter’s world dissolved and reassembled in a new configuration on each of these days.

6-13-13 No Particular Place To Go

Dorothy : Now which way do we go?
Scarecrow: Pardon me, this way is a very nice way.
Dorothy: Who said that?
[Toto barks at scarecrow]
Dorothy: Don’t be silly, Toto. Scarecrows don’t talk.
Scarecrow: [points other way] It’s pleasant down that way, too.
Dorothy: That’s funny. Wasn’t he pointing the other way?
Scarecrow: [points both ways] Of course, some people do go both ways.

Right now, that is me in a nutshell as regards the blog…

I guess the magic has finally worn off

I am only of half Irish extraction after all

SANYO Digital Camera

Turn off your mind, relax and float down stream
It is not dying, it is not dying

Lay down all thoughts, surrender to the void
It is shining, it is shining

Yet you may see the meaning of within
It is being, it is being

Love is all and love is everyone
It is knowing, it is knowing

And ignorance and hate mourn the dead
It is believing, it is believing

But listen to the colour of your dreams
It is not leaving, it is not leaving

So play the game “Existence” to the end
Of the beginning, of the beginning
Of the beginning, of the beginning
Of the beginning, of the beginning
Of the beginning, of the beginning

Unexpectedly I have to insert a link for Lennon/McCartney as WordPress does not recognize the words as important enough to recommend a link…

5-6-12 Another Pleasant Valley Sunday? Nah…

Turn off your mind, relax and float down stream
It is not dying, it is not dying

Lay down all thoughts, surrender to the void
It is shining, it is shining

Yet you may see the meaning of within
It is being, it is being

Love is all and love is everyone
It is knowing, it is knowing

And ignorance and hate mourn the dead
It is believing, it is believing

But listen to the colour of your dreams
It is not leaving, it is not leaving

So play the game “Existence” to the end
Of the beginning, of the beginning
Of the beginning, of the beginning
Of the beginning, of the beginning
Of the beginning, of the beginning

(with apologies to Lennon/McCartney…

especially Lennon)

2-16-12 I Got Blisters On Me Fingers

I don’t actually but these two gentlemen are feeling the pain…

We refer to this building as “The Headache and Toothache” building.  Its official name is the Hendrik Hudson which is not nearly as descriptive, in my humble opinion.

When in doubt, make a fool of yourself. There is a microscopically thin line between being brilliantly creative and acting like the most gigantic idiot on earth. So what the hell, leap.

I first saw this engine on 2/16/11 and have been shooting it on and off since then. As of two days ago, it was still on the rocks. Over the next few weeks I will be posting pictures of it going through its “life cycle”.

9-25-11 Return Of No Drama Sunday (Dine Out Irene)

People take pictures of the Summer,
Just in case someone thought they had missed it,
Just to proved that it really existed.
People take pictures of each other,
And the moment to last them for ever,
Of the time when they mattered to someone.
Picture of me when I was just three,
Sucking my thumb by the old oak tree.
Oh how I love things as they used to be,
Don’t show me no more, please.

Ray Davies

Today was “Dine Out Irene” day in New York. Participating restaurants will donate up to 10% of their revenue for the day to help farmers devastated by Irene.  There is a companion effort called “Dine In Irene”  organized by GrowNYC and Bloggers Without Borders that will occur all week. Katherine and I ate a very late lunch at the Uptown Fatty Crab and then I took a walk up the river while she subwayed it on home.  The shots below were the last two I took for the day. Abigail and I disagree on which of these pictures I should use.

What do you think?
