7-18-13 Hey 98.6

People have been telling me all day that it is hot. I guess I must be looking cool, calm, and collected! But it is definitely summer. Yesterday apparently 47 of the 50 states and Puerto Rico all went over 90 degrees.

As a public service I thought I would go back to 1-30-11.

Not enough? Okay, let’s go back a day…

Okay then how about 1-26-11

7-7-13 Travel Theme: Motion (Clinton Corners Edition)

“So in America when the sun goes down and I sit on the old broken-down river pier watching the long, long skies over New Jersey and sense all that raw land that rolls in one unbelievable huge bulge over to the West Coast, and all that road going, and all the people dreaming in the immensity of it… and tonight the stars’ll be out, and don’t you know that God is Pooh Bear?”
Jack Kerouac, On the Road, Part 5

Ailsa’s theme this week is Motion.

We celebrated the 4th in the most traditionally US way possible. We hit the road to visit friends in Clinton Corners, NY and Northampton, MA. Northampton starred in yesterday’s post so it is only fair that Clinton Corners carries the honors today. Here are two views from our friend’s back lawn of my idea motion. The first is from the 4th and carries echoes of the old days (perhaps could have used it for my Nostalgic post in response to the Weekly Photo Challenge yesterday.) The second is from early morning on the 5th.

11-6-12 Obama, Elizabeth Warren, Tammy Baldwin (I think) Maine, Maryland, Washington State, And On And On

If you had told me 10 years ago that a Presidential election would be between an African-American and a Mormon,  that a majority of the US would approve of gay marriage – not legalized in 50% of the country … that a gay woman (apparently) would be elected to the Senate – that two states would vote to legalize possession of small amounts of marijuana I would have laughed. If you had told me that pro and anti rape would be an issue I would have thought you were nuts.

Small but interesting point, Since 1928 the only times Republicans have won the Presidency someone named Bush or Nixon was on the ticket.
