5-5-14 Weekly Photo Challenge : Spring (Cinco De Mayo Edition)

No limes were harmed in the making of this blog.

Challenge: Spring

First Attempt: here

In reality this post has nothing to do with Cinco De Mayo.  I just thought I should acknowledge the day.

Here is a classic New York City view of spring…

wait for it…

it’s a good one…

In spring they say a young person’s fancy turns. I do seem to keep running into them.RSJohnson_Hudson_1405050043

They told me they are getting married.

4-28-14 Travel Theme: Glow (Laughter Edition)

Yesterday, amidst the low key celebrating, I took a short time to go down to the river while K took care of something (Yes, life doesn’t stop for significant days). It had been a beautiful day earlier but the wind had changed and clouds had moved in and it had become somewhat blustery. Thus the cherry blossoms in yesterday’s post.

While I was down at the Cherry Walk I observed a young biking couple who just stared into the trees and kept rubbing helmets and kissing.

They kept doing their thing and I kept shooting the river and the bridge and the sky (an amazing sky, I must show it to you sometime.) After a while he approached me and asked if I minded taking their picture with his cell phone.  Of course I said yes. I mean who of us doesn’t? After I took three pictures from three different angles (I do that a lot in this situation) I asked, as I frequently do, if I could take their picture.  They said yes.

They couldn’t stop giggling and glowing.

1-2-14 Young Blood

Something in the way she moves
Attracts me like no other lover
Something in the way she woos me
I don’t want to leave her now
You know I believe and how

There was more to see yesterday than the first beautiful sunset of 2014.

Love was in the air. One couple asked me to take their picture kissing in front of the sunset. They kissed long enough for me to take 12 shots. After I handed them their camera and before I could ask if I could take their picture…

I stayed on the pier and a few minutes later…

About 20 minutes later all the excitement was over and the sun was down.

3-23-12 Finding Cherry (This Will Soon Be Gone)

“The afternoon is bright,
with spring in the air,
a mild March afternoon,
with the breath of April stirring,
I am alone in the quiet patio
looking for some old untried illusion –
some shadow on the whiteness of the wall
some memory asleep
on the stone rim of the fountain,
perhaps in the air
the light swish of some trailing gown.”

“Every person on the streets of New York is a type. The city is one big theater where everyone is on display” – Jerry Rubin

Can you tell the tourists from the locals?

9-13-11 Riverus Interruptus

The Way That Young Lovers Do

“We strolled through fields, all wet with rain
And back along the lane again
There in the sunshine, in the sweet summertime
The way that young lovers do”

Today was a very quick river visit. I knew that I had a small window of opportunity which was at mid-day (not my favorite shooting time as the light is often at its least interesting). I had just reached the river and started shooting when I got a text message that required my attention back in the world.  But I still had a chance to clear my head (even if I didn’t get to my “zen place”) and think about some stuff (I love the vagueness of that word.) that needed attention.

Later in the day I read about the continuing growth of people in poverty, the continuing collapse of the middle class, and the continuing rise of the super rich, aided and abetted both by our wholly owned politicians and the voters, those people in poverty and that vanishing middle class, who keep voting against their own interests…THE LOST DECADE

8-26-11 Panic In the Streets

Well, you know people are taking it seriously when the supermarket is low on both beer and water.

These young lovers did not give a hoot…The only thing that stopped the tickling and nuzzling was the passage of this mysterious object.  He grabbed it – they looked at it for a minute…she licked his ear…they let it go.
